Food systems rarely fail because one piece is missing.

A small-scale producer may need better inputs, but inputs alone do not solve weak offtake. A lender may see demand but still lack the data needed to assess risk. A technology provider may have a strong solution, but no practical route into producer networks.

The challenge is not a lack of solutions, but a lack of connection between them.

When producers, markets, technology and finance operate in isolation, adoption remains slow, investment remains risky and producers remain underserved.

As demand for aquatic foods continues to grow, building more productive, resilient and investable aquaculture will require connecting these pieces into systems that can work at scale.

Why Aquaculture Matters

Aquaculture is now one of the most important growth areas in global food systems. It can provide nutrient-rich food, create local jobs, strengthen rural enterprise and support more resilient supply chains. In many emerging markets, it also offers a practical route to better incomes for small producers and local businesses.

But growth alone is not enough.

Poorly designed aquaculture can create environmental and financial risks. Sustainable aquaculture needs stronger production systems, clearer market links, better data and finance that rewards good performance.

Our work focuses on the link between these pieces. We help design aquaculture pathways that combine aggregator-led operating models, practical technology adoption, investment readiness and impact measurement.

Designing Aquaculture Systems Around Real-World Implementation

We work on aquaculture by linking strategy, finance, technology, and implementation. Our role is to help structure models that make sense both on the farm and to funders. That means understanding production realities, building credible partnerships, and designing capital around how aquaculture businesses actually operate.

CRAFT brings this work together: a climate-resilient aquaculture finance model designed to connect producers, operators, technology providers, data systems, funders and markets. We have developed the concept with sector partners and are now working to build it into an investable platform.
